Lots of paintings are pretty static when you look at it: they just hang on a wall, waiting for someone to pass and gaze at them. While the picture of the painting can be quite dynamic and vibrant, paintings themselves are quite often the opposite. Alper Dostal figured there was lots of potential there to make them different. He decided he’d turn them into melting paintings, like if you’d leave them in the sun for too long.
The Vienna-based artist reworks masterpieces by Van Gogh, Munch, Dali and Magritte – among others.
It’s somewhat scary and exciting to watch the paintings in this context. The 3D art is very realistic and done with great care for detail and respect for the original work of art. I doubt there’s an explanation needed for why his art series is called “Hot Exhibition”, especially after seeing the pictures.
Of course, like most other digital artists, Alper has an Instagram page where you can keep up with his new work and a website where you can buy his material. His concept surely is innovative enough, so there’s no harm done in following him if you’re into this kind of thing. If you’re not, well, might as well follow him because it’s not like you’re doing anything more productive on Instagram.
