9 Things In Fantastic Beasts That Make No Sense To Harry Potter Fans

If you grew up on Harry Potter books and movies you’re probably a Potterhead just like us. And you probably tried your best to be excited about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Yet after watching, you were probably left feeling confused and disappointed. We get it, it’s a prequel, we knew it was never going to be as good as the Harry Potter movies, it was always going to be mediocre at best. But some things just don’t match up. Here are some things that just make no sense to us.

1. Apparition At Hogwarts

From Harry Potter books we know you can’t apparate on Hogwarts grounds, it’s a rule that’s there for protection. Yet in Fantastic Beasts we see people apparating right at the front gate. What the hell?

2. Magic Is Everywhere

It was established in the Harry Potter books that wizards weren’t allowed to do magic in front of muggles. Yet in Fantastic Beasts movies, we see them do magic all the time, apparate in the streets full of muggles, and don’t even get us started with all the magical creatures running around in plain sights and even working at the circus.

3. Queenie’s Questionable Charm

This was legitimately illogical. Why did Queenie charm Jacob? He was already head over heels with her, there was simply no need to do that. And then assuming that Newt wouldn’t notice is just plain dumb. Like are we actually as an audience meant to believe that the main character is that stupid?

4. Dumbledore Unknown Brother

How is Credence (who turns out to be Aurelius) meant to be Albus Dumbledore’s brother? First of all, Dumbledore never mentioned him. And on top of that fans have figured out that he was born no later than 1908. Yet both Dumbledore’s parents died before 1990. That’s simply impossible.

5. Magic After Being Expelled

Do you remember how Hagrid wasn’t allowed to use magic anymore after being expelled from Hogwarts? He even hid his wand in the umbrella. Yet Newt kept doing magic left and right? What are these double standards?

6. Grindelwald’s Wacky Eyes

In Harry Potter, when we see young Grindelwald, he has brown eyes. By the time we see old Grindelwald ( Michael Byrne) had both gray eyes. Yet while Johnny Depp is playing him he’s got different eyes. Johnny said that he saw Grindelwald as perhaps two people in one body. But we think Depp just likes gimmicks like eye lenses and looking weird.

7. How old is Minerva McGonagall?

According to Harry Potter books she would’ve been born in the plate 1930s, yet we see McGonagall in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, which takes place in late 1920s and she’s already a Professor at that point. Is she just ancient but has really good genes or is this another mistake because Fantastic Beasts is a joke?

8. What did Dumbledore teach at Hogwarts?

Once again something just doesn’t match in Fantastic Beasts. If you’re a Harry Potter geek, you know that Dumbledore was a Transfiguration Professor before he became the Headmaster of Hogwarts. Yet we see him teach Newt Defense against the Dark Arts in Fantastic Beasts? Was he doing double shifts? Or was he a substitute teacher?

9. Why is no one saying spells?

In Harry Potter everyone has to say spells to use them. That’s what kids are taught in Hogwarts. Yet in Fantastic Beasts all spells are silent, magic just happens, spells just fly out of wants unprompted by words. And our question is “why?”.
