Ending a relationship with your significant other rarely goes smoothly and almost always causes a cascade of emotions on both sides. After all is said and done, and you’ve cooled down, you may realize that it wasn’t so bad or even that you should get back together. But you have to resist this urge and let bygones be bygones. After all, you two broke up for a good reason.
Anyway, here are eight sure signs that you’re still not over your ex-girlfriend.
You talk about her all the time
Let’s say you found a new GF, and you really like her, but you can’t stop mentioning your ex all the time. Talking about your former relationship with your current girlfriend is normal but you gotta do it in small chunks. This is the first, clear sign that you still have some residual feelings for your old flame.
You keep her photos
It’s okay to keep a few photos of your exes, but it’s NOT okay to have them all over the place. If your new girl sees this shrine dedicated to your ex, she’ll dump you in a split second, so stash the pics somewhere she won’t find them, like the rest of us.
Stop comparing the two
If you tell your new lady that she’s doing or saying something just like your ex, or even worse — not like your ex, then Billy, my boy, you have a problem. It is a clear sign that your feelings for her are still hot. A guy should never compare his current partner to an ex-girlfriend, remember that!
You call out her name
If you start calling your girlfriend Sam, when her actual name is Leslie or something, you’re in trouble. Once or twice, you’d probably be forgiven, but three times and up — you’re a dead man walking. Oh, and if you do it in bed, just pack your bags in the morning and leave.
You keep her mementos
If you still keep photographs, souvenirs, and little gifts that your ex-girlfriend gave you, it’s at least slightly suspicious. Don’t do that to your current partner.
You never mention your ex
This kind of behavior may be unhealthy just as much as mentioning your ex too often. In your previous relationship, you’ve had plenty of good and bad moments that are useful or fun to remember now. But, if you don’t want to talk about them, it could send the wrong signal to your partner. And that signal reads, “I’m still not over her.”
You still stalk your ex online
Do you get caught by your girl every now and then when you’re just “checking” your ex-girlfriend’s Facebook page or Instagram? You have FOMO, and that’s understandable, but dude, it’s been a year. Do you really need to know where she went two weeks ago and how her kitty cat is doing? Okay, fine, you can check on the cat once in a while but stop cyberstalking your ex.
You often text your ex
If you broke up on good terms, it’s possible that you don’t see each other as monsters and, after a while start texting again, exchanging memes, laughing. And you know what this leads to — getting back together. Which is not something either of you wants to do if you’re in a relationship already. So unless you’re both single, do not socialize with your ex. You’re only making things worse for the person you’re with right now.
