Watching movies in theaters is fun, but sometimes you just want to relax and put something on at home. Not only will you save on popcorn and snacks, but you’ll also have full control over the movie: skip the boring stuff, rewind the action scenes, and of course, pause at the very important moments. They can be cameos, bloopers, easter eggs, or even naughty scenes, but they all deserve your attention.
Let’s see some of the most pausable scenes in recent movie history!
1. Thor: The Dark World
We’re starting off with the king of easter eggs — Marvel. Every MCU movie has at least a couple of references and visual easter eggs for the fans. In Thor: The Dark World, we can briefly see Dr. Selvig’s blackboard scribbled with all sorts of formulas, equations, and doodles. If you look closer, you can see some familiar words that refer to Norse mythology and the bigger MCU picture.
2. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
A classic scene where a squad of stormtroopers passes through a gate and one of them hits the raised door with his head. This random blooper has become so popular that director George Lucas has made the sound effect of the hit louder.
3. Iron Man
In the early Marvel films, there are quite a few references to other stories from the Marvel comics. One of them is from the first Iron Man movie, where Tony Stark takes off the suit, and in the background, we can see the prototype of Captain America’s shield lying on the table. It was the first on-screen hint of what the Marvel universe would become.
4. Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark
During one of the scenes in Raiders of the Lost Ark, after the protagonist aims a rocket launcher at the bad guy, we get a close-up of the villain’s face. You can see that a fly is crawling around his mouth and then suddenly disappears inside. The actor didn’t break character and most likely swallowed the fly, making that scene epic and gross at the same time.
5. Signs
This sci-fi thriller with comedic elements shows us the invasion of hydrophobic extraterrestrial visitors trying to take over the planet, which mostly consists of water. Aren’t they supposed to be smart? All jokes aside, the aliens are only visible in the frame for a brief moment. And to get a better look at them — you guessed it — many people paused the tape at just the right moment. The CGI is not that great, by the way.
6. Cabin in the Woods
For a few seconds, a scene with a whiteboard graces our screens in The Cabin in the Woods. You can see various names of monsters and departments written on it. The likes of Yeti, Deadites, Giants, and Scarecrow Folk are being teased, hinting that somewhere out there there’s a yeti murdering people to save the Earth. And then there’s Kevin. Just… Kevin.
7. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
In The Force Awakens, old Luke Skywalker stands next to an unusual structure that resembles a tombstone. Many viewers wondered if this was really someone’s grave or just the CG department having fun. And since we now know about Grogu and Luke, could this be his resting place? Only time will tell.
8. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Disney’s animated movies are just as stuffed with cool easter eggs as their Marvel films. One such reference is a very brief cameo of Belle from Beauty and the Beast just having a leisurely stroll down the street.
