Most of the time, people who come home after a hard day at work will be greeted by their pets, loved ones, or family and just unwind for a bit. And what better way to chillax than cook some quick, calorie-filled goodies?
Did you know that there are several types of comfort food? Nostalgic food, for example, is something straight from our childhood. And indulgent food is that fatty pizza roll every other month. Whatever type it is, it’s always tasty and makes you feel better. An evening with your favorite comfort food is one of a million ways to take care of yourself and have a good time, so let’s take a look at some comfy options for wintertime.
1. Chicken Noodle Soup
Even if we didn’t have the nasty corona flying around, this fragrant soup would still be the best remedy for colds. It’s insanely easy to prepare and tastes like heaven. Some people prefer cooking their noodles with chicken, but I say it’s heresy. Always cook them separately otherwise the noods will get mushy very fast.
2. Shepherd Pie
This traditional Irish dish, sometimes called a potato casserole, is an obligatory part of every decent pub’s menu, not to mention kindergartens and schools. Have you had this meaty pie when you were little? If you have, it may trigger those long-forgotten memories of childhood.
3. Lasagna
This classic Italian dish is full of carbs, and carbs are love! Lasagna may be one of the most overused comfort foods out there, which is not a big surprise since the US is basically a much bigger Italy.
4. Mashed Potatoes with Sour Cream and Bacon Bits
Here’s my personal favorite. You take some taters, peel them well, and cook them until they are good and ready. Drain the excess water, add a few spoons of sour cream and salt and start mashing! I also like squeezing some garlic into the pot, but it’s optional. In the end, sprinkle some crumbled bacon and enjoy a phenomenal feast.
5. Mac and Cheese
What’s more iconic than this bowl of yellow goo? Mac and cheese became an instant classic for millions of families in America and later on worldwide. Basically, all you need is, yes, you guessed it — macaroni and cheese! Keep stirring the mac and adding more of that yellow goodness until it’s nice and thick. Also, throw in some bacon bits for good measure.
6. Deep Dish Pizza
Nothing beats a homemade deep dish pizza. Since you’re not limited to a certain set of ingredients, you can do pepperoni with french fries, or salmon with kale, if you really hate yourself. Keep the dough in the oven for about 25 minutes, and do not use any raw meat!
7. Grilled Cheese Sandwich with a Twist
When it comes to a hearty breakfast, nothing beats fried eggs and a grilled cheese sandwich. So what if we combined the two best foods into one? That’s how you get the best results with minimum effort!
8. Crunchy Homemade Oven Fries
Taters are super versatile. You can fry them, boil them, mash them, eat them raw if you’re desperate. And oven baked potatoes are also a great and healthy option. But first, you want to pre-cook the slices before putting them into a hot oven for half an hour. This will result in the crunchiest fries ever, which you can dip in whatever you want as long as it has garlic in it.
9. Double-Layered Chocolate Cake
And for dessert, we have the true and tried comfort food — the chocolate cake with even more chocolate on top and in the middle. At this point, many of you would just eat a chocolate bar, and that’s valid. But you can’t sink your teeth into a hard candy bar like you would do with a puffy, delicious cake.
