The lockdown is still going strong in many countries, including the US. We thought we’ve already figured out what this coronavirus does to a human body, but it appears that there was still much we still had to figure out. It is a brand new virus after all, so it’s no surprise that the number of symptoms keeps growing. Previously, we thought the fever, dry coughing, and shortness of breath were the symptoms of COVID-19, but recently the CDC updated that list.
The following symptoms may appear from two to fourteen days after coming in contact with the virus:
1) Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
2) Cough
3) Loss of taste or smell
4) Repeated shaking with chills
5) Muscle pain
6) Fever
7) Chills
8) Headache
9) Sore throat
Now, don’t freak out if you have some of them. There are plenty of diseases out there that can cause a combination of two or more of these symptoms. But just to be safe, keep self-isolating like a champ.
As the CDC continues researching COVID-19, they may discover additional, less apparent symptoms. It means that the list is still a work in progress, so if you start feeling unwell, give your physician a call immediately. The CDC recommended seeking medical attention in three cases: shortness of breath, chest pains, and blue-ish lips or face. I’d add fever to that list, but I’m no CDC.
Camille Vaughan, the head of the Department of Geriatrics and Gerontology at Emory University, said that infected elderly people show “atypical” symptoms. According to her, older people with Covid-19 may not even have the most common symptoms at all, which makes things much harder.
Stay safe at home, wash your hands, and wait for this mess to blow over.
