7 Most Iconic Video Game Heroines of the Last Decade

Gamers
on the Internet love compiling these silly little top charts about
their favorite games, genres, characters, bosses, etc. People really
seem to enjoy comparing those lists to their own preferences, and
then arguing about how this or that entry is pure crap, because they
don’t like it. Yeah, the Internet is a great place!

So
how about we talk a bit about the coolest video game heroines of the
last decade? You can tell me how wrong I am in the comments. It’s
going to be fun!

The
New Lara
Croft (Tomb
Raider)

The
new and improved “Tomb Raider” is all about surviving, solving
ancient mysteries, and kicking butts! Sounds a lot like the old Lara
Croft, but this time around she’s much more fleshed out. And I don’t
mean her beautiful polygons.

2B
Android
(Nier:
Automata)

The
game itself is a masterpiece with a ton of subtext, deep,
thought-provoking ideas, and ever-changing play styles. Oh, and how
about all those endings? But let’s go back to 2B: she graciously
flies all over the screen, taking out hundreds of robots, titanic
bosses and whatever else comes her way.

Senua
(Hellblade:
Senua’s Sacrifice)

Senua’s
story goes very deep, quite literally. She’s going through Helheim,
the Nordic equivalent of Hell, to reunite with her family. Slaying
monsters, hearing whispering voices in her head, fighting for her
loved ones. You as a player, never quite know if the voices are
helping you or trying to end you. The game is a 10/10 masterpiece,
helping everyone experience what it’s like to have a mental disorder,
and the titular heroine will live on to become a true gaming icon!

Bayonetta

Witches,
demons, angels, planet-sized deities – Bayonetta has fought them
all and then some. This fiery lady knows how to dish it out.
Bayonetta has become so popular that she
was featured as one of the fighters in Super Smash Bros. for
Wii U and recently the Super Smash Bros.
Ultimate!

Jesse
Faden (Control)

It’s
weird to have a 2019 game on the list but what can you do? You play
as Jesse, the newest boss of the
Federal Bureau of Control. What’s FBC? Couldn’t
tell you if I wanted to, because it’s that weird and complicated.
Jesse has a few very handy superpowers which
include levitation, and matter manipulation, as well as a badass
alien gun that changes shape. Last but not least, Control won the
GOTY award!

Aloy
(Horizon
Zero Dawn)

In this list of strong, resourceful video game heroines, Aloy gets the highest score. Surviving in the wild post-apocalyptic world full of mechanical beasts is hard, especially for a young huntress, who’s been exiled from her clan. Seriously, Aloy is an amazing role model not only for girls, but people in general. Always ready to help those in need, even though her own life is in shambles. Pick it up, you won’t regret it!

Goose (Untitled Goose Game)

And last but not least, we have a weird one. It’s a goose. Just a goose not a gander. A honking nightmare of every rural kid. The goose game was one of the best things about 2019, proving to the gaming industry that you don’t have to spend millions of dollars on AAA projects, and that all you need is a creative approach. Now millions of people are playing as the goose, torturing villagers with its unholy honks. Simple yet elegant!
