10 Highest Grossing Films Of All Time

After 10 years of being at the top as the highest-grossing movie ever, “Avatar” has finally been dethroned by “Avengers: Endgame”! Have there been any other changes in the movie hierarchy? Let’s find out!

Here are the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time!

10. Furious 7 – $1.51 billion

Who could have thought that it would take this franchise 7 installments to get into the top 10? Furious 7 earned a whopping $1.5 billion at the box office! All that thanks to the incredibly generous Paul Walker fans, I suppose. After all, the movie was his last project and eventually his memorial.

9. The Avengers – $1.52 billion

Unlike DC’s Justice League, the first Avengers movie was a smashing hit, thanks to the foundation laid by Kevin Feige. We’ve never seen a crossover this huge and well-thought-out before, and choosing Joss Whedon as the director simply sealed the deal. Seeing Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and the rest of the characters together was pure magic. But even the shocking $1.52 billion that the Avengers eventually gathered was like a drop in the bucket compared to the rest of the contestants.

8. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope – $1.6 billion

Even though the entire original Star Wars trilogy was a huge success, “A New Hope” did it best. Back in the ’80s, it made $460 million, but after adjusting the ticket price and all that voodoo stuff, we get a nice and clean $1.6 billion mark.

7. Jurassic World – $1.67 billion

With a budget of $150 mil, Jurassic World made $1.672 billion, proving once and for all that once a dinosaur nerd – always a dinosaur nerd! Of course, casting the lovable Starlord aka Chris Pratt helped a little too.

6. Gone With The Wind – $1.82 billion

Gone With The Wind has been on this top-10 list ever since it was released in 1939. Back then it earned $200 million, which after the same adjustments we did with the New Hope, totals at about $1.82 billion. Talk about an ageless classic!

5. Avengers: Infinity War – $2.05 billion

Funny how “Infinity War” with its $2.05 billion, is right in the middle of the list, “The Avengers” is almost and the end, and “Endgame”. No love for “Age of Ultron” I see. At least this was the first film about comic book heroes cross over the $2 billion threshold.

4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens – $2.07 billion

The first Star Wars trilogy was great, the prequels were mostly crap, and now the sequels are trying to get all your hard-earned nostalgia money. The big comeback has grossed $2.068 billion in theaters worldwide, and there’s a chance the upcoming “Last Jedi” will beat this puny number into a pulp. The hype machine never stops!

3. Titanic – $2.19 billion

What’s there to say about the Titanic? There was this huge boat, it smashed into an iceberg, and sank, dragging thousands of passengers with it to the cold and dark abyss. James Cameron made us fall in love with Jack and Rose’s characters only to pull the rug from under our feet in the end. Fun fact: Titanic was the first-ever film to cross the $1 billion mark!

2. Avatar – $2.789 billion

How and why Cameron’s “Avatar” got so up high on the list is beyond me. Sure, it was a pretty movie with some great visuals, but at the end of the day, it was hugely forgettable. Still, credit where credit is due, it grossed $2.789 billion, and that granted them the top spot here until…

1. Avengers: Endgame – $2.8 billion

Yeah, that’s right, the new sheriff’s in town, Avatar, move aside! We knew that it was going to happen sooner than later and it did: Avengers Endgame dethroned Cameron’s Avatar fair and square (well, mostly), earning $2.8 billion! The 10 year-long buildup and tremendous $356 million budget, secured Marvel’s superiority once and for all. That is, until something even better comes up, like Avatar 2 or Avengers 5.
