Age of Resistance”

The original “Dark Crystal” was released in 1982 and created by the Jim Hanson’s puppet company. The movie tells about a magical land that for centuries was inhabited by the peace-loving Gelflings. Prosperity and peace reigned everywhere, but once a terrible misfortune occurred: the Dark Crystal was damaged, which disturbed the balance of chaos and order, and the poor Gelflings were enslaved by vicious lizard-like Skeksis oppressors. The brave Gelflings Jen and Kira must now search for the missing part of the crystal to repair it and save their people.

The Netflix series takes place several years before the events of the movie. The main characters find out that the evil Skeksis race damaged the magic crystal that rules the laws of the Universe and need to make things right again. Because of them, an uprising begins that can destroy the cruel invaders. If you thought the movie had too many characters, wait till you see the series!

This is why out of dozens of semi-important characters we’ve picked seven that you will definitely enjoy!

1. Rian – Taron Egerton

You just can’t resist the charm of the main hero of the story. Rian may start off as a naive hero, but as the plot thickens, all the betrayals and people he lost start piling on. His hero journey begins from the very bottom, and by the end, he’s an entirely different Gelfling with new friends and allies, but with the same pure goals.

2. Baffi the Fizzgig – Dave Goelz

Fizzgigs are amazing, and we want more of them! Especially Baffi, the badass Fizz with an eye-patch that likes to hang out with Maudra Fara. Where did Baffi lose his eye in the first place? We don’t know, but he deserves a spin-off series.

3. The Heretic – Andy Samberg

Skeksis are also quite memorable, especially the ones that tried to convince his fellow lizard-birds to do things the right way. The Heretic teams up with The Wanderer to deliver the Shard of Division to the Gelflings. One of the coolest good guys of the show.

4. The Emperor – Jason Isaacs

If you’ve seen the original movie, you know the Emperor doesn’t need an introduction. Sadly, back in the day, we only got to see him for a few moments before he disintegrates into nothing but dust. In the show, however, we find out much more about the leader of the Skeksis. Spoiler alert! He’s not a nice lizard-bird.

5. Mira – Alicia Vikander

Mira is an absolute delight and one of the fiercest Gelfling warriors. No wonder that Rian fell for her charm so quickly. Sadly, though, we don’t get to see much of her in the series, as she falls victim to the evil Skeksis, showing them how the essence works. That’s when all the crap hits the fan.

6. The Hunter – Ralph Ineson

Look at this guy. His design is the best thing about his character: armor made of bones and skulls, stealthy, athletic movements, and absolutely zero reservations for the lives of his victims. He also has this weird thing with the Archer, where if one of them dies, the other dies as well. Turns out the Archer sacrificing himself also killed the Hunter.

7. The Scientist – Mark Hamill

And the last but not least is Mark Hamill’s character – the Scientist. You know Hamill, he’s one of the best voice actors in the world, so giving him an insignificant role would be a real waste of talent. So what’s unique about this Scientist? Well, he uses a lot of technical terms and big words, which makes him look smarter, compared to the rest of his kind. But in the end, it’s his mad experiments that lead to the horrible essence-sucking events of the story. Not to mention his “pet” monsters, the Garthim. You do not want to root for this jerk, that’s for sure.
